Who needs RBS certification in California?

Since California's RBS mandate took effect, every alcohol server and their manager at an on-premise licensed location must be RBS certified, and new servers generally have to certify within 60 days of being hired. That covers bars, restaurants, hotels, tasting rooms, and any venue serving alcohol for on-site consumption. If your staff pours or serves, they need this. How California RBS certification works

It takes three steps, and the training is the middle one:

1. Register for an account on the California ABC RBS Portal.

2. Complete an ABC-approved training course, which is this program.

3. Pass the ABC exam on the Portal.

The certification is valid for three years. This course is approved by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and prepares your team to pass the Portal exam on the first try.

What's in the course

The TIPS California RBS program runs about three hours, fully online and self-paced. It covers California alcohol law, checking IDs, recognizing intoxication, and safe intervention, all mapped to what the ABC exam tests. TIPS is one of the most established responsible-service programs in the country, so your certificate carries weight with regulators and insurers.

Certifying a whole team

Buy seats in bulk, assign them to your staff, and track who has registered on the Portal, who has finished the course, and who still needs to pass the exam, all from the Learn Brands dashboard. For a bar or restaurant group getting a full floor certified, that visibility is the difference between staying inspection-ready and chasing paper.
