Pennsylvania RAMP Alcohol Training is the TIPS on-premise program for people who serve alcohol in restaurants, bars, and hospitality settings. It includes RAMP server and seller training approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB), so it satisfies the state requirement, and it goes further with the mitigation strategies that raise professionalism, improve customer service, lower your establishment's liability risk, and can help with liquor liability insurance discounts. It builds on your existing skills to prevent underage and second-party sales, drunk driving, and sales to intoxicated customers, all while keeping control of difficult situations.

What you'll learn

• Your legal responsibilities as a server, the types of illegal alcohol sales, and the penalties that follow

• Blood alcohol content, the factors that affect it, and how alcohol changes behavior

• How to evaluate behavioral cues and judge a customer's level of intoxication

• Proper ID verification, acceptable forms of proof, and the special challenges of on-premise service

• Safe-selling guidelines and how to respond to difficult situations without escalation

• Your legal obligations to prevent sales to minors and refuse service to visibly intoxicated persons

Format and certificate

The program is built around three areas: information, skills training, and practice or rehearsal. Once you complete the lessons and quizzes and pass the final exam (Pennsylvania requires a score of 80% or better for RAMP credit), you can print your official TIPS certificate right away.

How long do I have to complete RAMP training?

Alcohol service employees must complete RAMP server/seller training within six months of being hired. Cashiers at a store's designated wine or ready-to-drink cocktail register must be trained before they work it. Training is valid for two years, and you renew by training again before it expires.
