Yes, ongoing cannabis training is required in New Jersey. Under N.J.A.C. 17:30-9.8, everyone who works at a business licensed by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission must complete at least eight hours of ongoing training each calendar year. That includes employees, volunteers, and management services contractor staff, whether or not they handle product. The count starts over every January 1.

What N.J.A.C. 17:30-9.8 requires

Ongoing training has to cover five topics:

• State and federal cannabis law

• State and federal privacy and confidentiality law

• New developments in the field of cannabis

• The security measures and controls your business uses

• Emergency procedures, including robbery and workplace violence

Ongoing training is separate from the training a worker completes before the Commission issues their Cannabis Business Identification Card. This course covers the annual requirement.
