At Learn Brands, we believe education has the power to create safer communities. That’s why we’re proud to support the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) latest initiative to better understand — and close — key knowledge gaps around impaired driving.

Understanding Impaired Driving

Over the past three years, Learn Brands has collaborated with CDOT to deliver targeted training to retail staff across Colorado. By gathering nearly 1,000 survey responses through our online course, CDOT uncovered important insights now shared in their newest public report.

Key Takeaways

The findings highlight several important areas where additional education is needed:

  • Understanding how long impairment can last: Many individuals underestimate the time it takes before it is safe to drive after consuming certain products. CDOT recommends waiting at least six hours after inhaled use and eight hours after edible consumption before driving.

  • Awareness of legal consequences: There remains confusion about how impaired driving is enforced. Driving under the influence — whether from alcohol or other substances — can lead to the same penalties, including fines, license suspension, and potential jail time.

  • Clarifying how impairment is determined: Officers can assess impairment through roadside evaluations, and Colorado law sets a measurable threshold for active substances in the bloodstream.

Why This Matters

Retail staff have a unique opportunity to positively influence responsible decision-making. Through our partnership with CDOT, Learn Brands is helping ensure that frontline teams have access to clear, accurate information. This enables them to share important safety messages with their communities.

The Role of Education in Safety

Education plays a crucial role in promoting safer driving behaviors. We believe that when individuals understand the risks associated with impaired driving, they will make more informed decisions. Our commitment centers on empowering communities to prioritize safety.

As we move into the busy spring and summer seasons, it’s more important than ever to stay informed. Promoting safer roads benefits everyone. Our joint efforts aim to equip retail staff with the resources they need.

Community Engagement

Engaging with communities is vital. Retail staff, as trusted members of their neighborhoods, can influence positive changes. The training we offer ensures they can communicate effectively about the dangers of impaired driving.

Our collaboration with CDOT is a stepping stone towards creating a more educated public. Together, we can fill knowledge gaps that contribute to unsafe driving practices.

Conclusion

In summary, Learn Brands is proud to support CDOT in their mission to reduce impaired driving. The insights gained through our training initiatives will continue to inform and educate. By doing so, we hope to create safer environments for all.
